July 2014, Johannesburg – This past weekend Eastwave FM hosted its 3rd annual Nelson Mandela International Day Community Leadership Awards. Eastwave Radio seeks to honour people that are rolling up their sleeves, taking initiative and solving problems in their neighbourhoods, and communities.

Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura presented The 2014 Young Leadership Award to Nadav Ossendryver, founder of Latest Sightings.

“Nadav Ossendryver, as a teenager, earned the credibility of excelling in the Young Leadership category, through his entrepreneurial and conservationist skills that assists projects related to endangered wildlife. It is without doubt that many teenagers will be inspired to follow in the footsteps of Nadav,” said Project Manager Saleem Cassim.

Two years ago at just 15 Nadav developed a crowd-sourcing app called Latest Sightings ( which shares real time sightings as and when they happen.  This application has been instrumental in supporting the Endangered Wildlife Trust’s (EWT) Wild Dog Project (an endangered species). Latest Sightings benefits this project by reporting sightings of wild dog which are used to monitor the movement of wild dogs, changes in pack structure and demographics to monitor numbers.

Nadav also assisted with the gathering and coordination of clothes, food & sanitary items for the relief of flood victims in the Kruger National Park. Nadav decided to set up a programme to bring relief to 171 staff members of the Shingwedzi Rest Camp. He started by approaching some schools in his home city of Johannesburg. The response was overwhelming!

Nadav says, “I feel honoured to have been awarded this leadership award on behalf of Nelson Mandela’s legacy.  I hope that through Latest Sightings more people develop a greater love and passion towards wildlife and conservation.”

This year, the Nelson Mandela International Day Community Leadership Awards accepted nominations from the entire Gauteng Province.
