JSE Welcomes LatestSightings.com Founder to the Market Open

Nov 20 2015

Nadav Ossendryver, founder of Latest Sightings, alongside P J Powers Thandeka and Dr Denis Goldberg, symbolically opened the JSE (Johannesburg Stock Exchange) market. This is in honour of Nadav’s contribution for the love of rhinos and conservation, ensuring that they are safe and that awareness about their safety is publicly communicated and promoted across the world.

With no respite in the decimation of South Africa’s rhinos by poaching syndicates that supply the ongoing demand for rhino horn, Nadav was recently one of seven Youth Rhino Ambassadors, selected by Operation Game Change, to represent South Africa and carry an important appeal to Vietnamese citizens and Asian government leaders to urgently bring an end to the rhino poaching crisis in South Africa.
Operation Game Change (OGC) has high-level support from Vietnam’s important Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment and Agriculture and Rural Development, with support from the US State Department and US Embassy in Vietnam. Nadav says,  “During the four years that Latest Sightings has existed, it has created a lot of awareness about both conservation and rhino poaching in South Africa. We do not allow the reporting of rhino sightings, but due to the fact that users are able to report their wildlife sightings, rangers can respond to the various reports immediately. Through running and growing a community of this large magnitude over the past few years, I have learned a lot about how to be a leader and connect with people. This helped me on the Operation Game Change visit to Vietnam as I knew how to connect to people and show them my passion for wildlife and nature'.
The JSE's symbolic opening of the market takes its cue from when the ringing of the bell signalled the opening of trading on the trading floor at stock exchanges across the globe, and so in their uniquely South African way, they mark the opening of the market with the sounding of uniquely South African instruments. This is done in front of the wall board where the markets open is counted down and marked by the blowing of the kudu horn. JSE market opens are platforms where the JSE invite companies and ordinary South Africans which have and make an impact in this beautiful country of ours.
